Laboratory of genetic modifications

  • Laboratory of genetic modifications (LGM) can be very proud of the young ambitious dynamically elaborative team, which shows very high assignment and grade of a work, what is evident from a number of the articles published in well recognized foreign journals. Broad range modern molecular-biology methods are used in LGM, including transformation, cloning, mutagenesis, different types of chromatography etc.
  • There are two main focuses of scientific work in LGM. The first one plays a key role and its aim is to develop genetically modified microorganisms, which would be capable of the human antimicrobial peptide production. Antimicrobial peptides are natural antibiotics defending a human body against disease-producing bacteria. A big potential in applications is the main advantage of them, starting with a therapy of diseases, which are cured by conventional antibiotics for the present and ending in a use as a preservative compound in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. For development of genetically modified microorganisms producing human antimicrobial peptides, bacteria and yeasts are used now. Genetically modified filamentous fungi will be developed in the future.
  • The second focus of LGM is development of the bacteria, which would be able to produce different enzymes and other materials utilizable as active substances in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
